Who is the Mediflex Pressure Relief Mattress suitable for?
The Mediflex is a hybrid pressure relief mattress for people who need reliable pressure care now, with the flexibility to increase support later if their needs change.
It can be used on its own as a self-regulating, non-powered mattress, with no pump, power supply or continuous noise. If additional pressure therapy is required, the optional air pump can be connected to convert the same mattress into a powered alternating pressure system without replacing the mattress.
Ideal for:
- People with limited mobility who are at risk of pressure sores or pressure ulcers
- Home care where a quiet, non-powered pressure relief mattress is preferred
- People whose pressure-care needs may increase over time
- Families and carers looking for one mattress that can adapt to changing care requirements
- Users weighing up to 200kg
Two pressure care options in one mattress
1. Self-regulating pressure relief, no pump required
Independent air chambers respond as the user moves or is repositioned, automatically rebalancing pressure across the mattress. There is no electrical power, external pump or continuous pump noise, making it particularly practical for everyday home care.
2. Powered alternating pressure relief, when more support is needed
If care needs change, simply connect the optional controller pump to convert the Mediflex into a powered alternating pressure mattress. The system then operates on a 10-minute alternating cycle, continually changing pressure across the mattress surface.
Comfort and protection where it matters
An i-Kool gel-infused viscoelastic top layer provides additional comfort, with targeted gel therapy around the heel area. The multi-stretch waterproof cover is designed to help reduce shear and friction.
The Mediflex is suitable for people assessed from at risk to very high risk of developing pressure ulcers, with a maximum user weight of 200kg.

FAQs
Hybrid means the mattress works as a foam mattress on its own, and the air pump is an optional add-on. Without the pump it is a static foam surface; with the pump it alternates like an air mattress. That is useful if the person's needs may change, or if you want a surface that still works during a power cut without any special battery system.
Yes, 198cm long, 86cm wide, 15cm deep. It is the slimmest of the five at 15cm, which can matter if you are using bed rails, because a deeper mattress reduces the effective rail height.
Up to 200kg, which is just under 31.5 stone, the highest of the three standard-width mattresses in this range. Above that, the BariFloat is rated to 317kg but is 120cm wide and needs a bariatric bed frame.
This is a pressure-redistribution mattress rated Very High Risk on the Waterlow scale, it is designed to protect skin, not to treat back pain. People do find a hybrid surface comfortable, but we would not sell it as an orthopaedic mattress and you should not buy it on that basis.
It carries the same Very High Risk rating as the Simplex Auto and Q-PRO2000XT but starts lower, from €1,195, because the pump is optional rather than included. The air mattresses alternate continuously; the Mediflex only does so if you add the pump.
The €1,195 price includes VAT. If you are buying for a person with a disability you can apply to Revenue for a refund under VAT 61A, the claim goes to Revenue after purchase, not at checkout. The link on this page explains the process and where to get the form.
